Games like eRepublik
In eRepublik you are one citizen of a real country, and the players run everything else. A handful of games still work that way. This is what each one is, where it runs and what money buys in it, checked on 5 October 2026.
We make Gray Horizon, so it comes first. Read that part with that in mind; the rest is from each game's own pages.

Gray Horizon
A browser game made by one person, where you play one citizen of a real country and the players run everything else.
- The map
- 196 countries and 755 provinces. Each country starts with the kind of government it has today. A province changes hands only when both sides sign a peace treaty. Winning the battle only starts the argument.
- Runs on
- Any browser on a phone or a computer, and an Android app on Google Play. On an iPhone, add it to the home screen.
- What money buys
- Nothing is for sale during the alpha. Later: looks, a few extra saved slots and a Supporter plan. Credits, Energy, damage, gear stats, votes and offices are never for sale, and the game's tests refuse a store item that would sell one.
- How far along
- Closed alpha since September 2026. The alpha world is deleted when the alpha ends.
WarEra
A free browser strategy game from a studio in Paris, where you play a soldier, a trader, an entrepreneur or a politician.
- The map
- 180 countries and 726 regions in its public API. Each country starts with the regions it holds in the real world. A region is occupied when the attacking side wins the battle for it.
- Runs on
- Browser and an Android app. On iPhone, a TestFlight test was announced in January 2026; there was no App Store listing in October.
- What money buys
- Gems, bought with money, pay for skins, banners, random cosmetic boxes and a monthly Supporter Plan. The plan adds convenience: five saved equipment sets instead of one, more kits, and a button that runs all your production at once. Its front page says "No pay to win, 100% free to play".
- How far along
- Alpha in April 2024, in beta now (0.26.2).
- What it does well
- It is further along than Gray Horizon, with more people in its world today and a front page in 29 languages.
Eclesiar
A browser strategy game made by one developer in Portugal, where you become a citizen of a real-world country.
- The map
- Real countries.
- Runs on
- Browser, Android, iPhone (since July 2026) and Steam.
- What money buys
- Gems, bought with money. Its FAQ says it is not pay to win and that packs add convenience and cosmetics. A fan wiki from before 2.0 lists gem items that speed up skills and rank.
- How far along
- Released in 2024. Version 2.0 in July 2026, and on Steam since 1 October 2026.
- What it does well
- It moves fast, and it is on more platforms than any other game here.
Rival Regions
A strategy game about politics, economics and war on a real world map, from a developer in Moscow.
- The map
- Real-world regions, plus the Moon and Antarctica. Players form their own states out of them. Wars last a day, and troops can be sent every hour.
- Runs on
- Browser and Android (updated in July 2026). The iPhone app was last updated in May 2018.
- What money buys
- Gold and a Premium account. Its own wiki says Premium raises the most Energy you can hold from 200 to 300 and lets you use an auto mode at work and in wars.
- How far along
- Released in 2013, still running.
- What it does well
- More than ten years of running, an active Android app, and the freedom to build a state of your own out of the map.
e-Sim
A browser world simulator on several servers, each its own copy of the world.
- The map
- Real countries and regions; which ones depends on the server.
- Runs on
- Browser and Android, where it is called "e-SIM Countryballs".
- What money buys
- Gold and a Premium account. Its wiki lists gold items that add damage for a day, followed by a penalty.
- How far along
- Around 2011, still running.
- What it does well
- Its Android app has more than five million downloads, by far the most here.
eRepublik
The game that started the genre: a copy of the real world's countries, run by players, from eRepublik Labs (part of Stillfront since 2017).
- The map
- A copy of the real world, each country named after a real one.
- Runs on
- Browser, Android and iPhone.
- What money buys
- Gold, and packs on sale for a few days at a time. A player's write-up of the September 2026 sale lists a "Land Warfare pack" with damage boosters in it.
- How far along
- Public beta in 2007, launched in 2008, still running.
- What it does well
- Nearly twenty years of history, the biggest community of these games, and apps in both stores.
If you would rather run a country of your own
A different kind of game: you invent a nation and govern it, instead of joining a real one. NationStates has been running since 2002 and you govern by answering issues. Politics and War starts you with a country of your own to build, trade with and fight for.
