Gray Horizon vs eRepublik
eRepublik invented this kind of game: one citizen of a real country, and the players run the rest. Gray Horizon is a new game in the same tradition. The biggest difference is what money does.
| Gray Horizon | eRepublik | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A browser game made by one person, where you play one citizen of a real country and the players run everything else. | The game that started the genre: a copy of the real world's countries, run by players, from eRepublik Labs (part of Stillfront since 2017). |
| The map | 196 countries and 755 provinces. Each country starts with the kind of government it has today. | A copy of the real world, each country named after a real one. |
| Borders | A province changes hands only when both sides sign a peace treaty. Winning the battle only starts the argument. | Not published |
| Runs on | Any browser on a phone or a computer, and an Android app on Google Play. On an iPhone, add it to the home screen. | Browser, Android and iPhone. |
| What money buys | Nothing is for sale during the alpha. Later: looks, a few extra saved slots and a Supporter plan. Credits, Energy, damage, gear stats, votes and offices are never for sale, and the game's tests refuse a store item that would sell one. | Gold, and packs on sale for a few days at a time. A player's write-up of the September 2026 sale lists a "Land Warfare pack" with damage boosters in it. |
| Languages | English. Players write their papers and talk in any language. | 31 languages on its front page. |
| How far along | Closed alpha since September 2026. The alpha world is deleted when the alpha ends. | Public beta in 2007, launched in 2008, still running. |
What money buys
eRepublik sells gold and packs that are on sale for a few days at a time. One player's write-up of the September 2026 sale lists a pack with damage boosters in it.
In Gray Horizon money can never buy damage, Energy, gear stats, Credits, votes or offices, and while the alpha lasts it buys nothing at all.
On a phone
Both work on a phone. eRepublik has apps in both stores. Gray Horizon is the same game in any phone's browser as on a computer, and it is on Google Play for Android.
An old world and a new one
eRepublik has nearly twenty years of history behind it; a player's count put its active players at 32,281 in September 2026. Gray Horizon starts from nothing. Every country's first government is being chosen now, in a world that will be deleted when the alpha ends.
Which one is for you
Pick eRepublik if you want the biggest community and twenty years of history to step into.
Pick Gray Horizon if you want a fresh map where nobody has bought a head start, and a war that ends at a peace treaty.
We make Gray Horizon, so read this page with that in mind. What it says about eRepublik comes from eRepublik's own pages, its store listings, its wiki and its players' own writing, checked on 5 October 2026. If something has changed, write to hello@grayhorizon.world and it gets fixed.
